Fleas can be deadly to a neonatal kitten, so it’s critically important to perform a thorough intake exam on all kittens, including using a flea comb to check for fleas and flea dirt. If you find fleas or flea dirt and if the health status of the kitten permits, you should carefully bathe the kitten with a kitten-safe soap, ensuring that the kitten does not become chilled and is thoroughly dried and kept warm afterward. All bedding should be washed in hot water to kill fleas and flea eggs.
